PUP – Morbid Stuff Tour 20/04/19@MTC Cologne

Bands: PUPMilk Teeth
Date: 20/04/19
Location: MTC Cologne
Promoter: FKP Scorpio

The guys of the Canadian Punk band PUP are on tour right now with their new album Morbid Stuff. And I did not miss the opportunity to visit her performance at MTC (Cologne) on 20.04.2019.
I’ve seen them live before last year at Frank Turner’s tour. So I already knew that they kick ass and I wasn’t disappointed this time. Through the super private living room atmosphere that the MTC offers, I have been able to throw a whole new look at the band. It feels like a spontaneous concert on a house party from friends of mine.
Because of the fact that it was Steve Sladkowski’s (guitar, backing vocals) birthday, we all sang for him. He thanked us that he’s cursed now, cause a lot of people congratulated him a day before and it brings bad luck in Germany. So Happy Birthday Steve! The narrow location and summery temperatures outside aren’t the only things that heated up the audience. The British Punk band Milk Teeth made the beginning with a very good performance, which wasn’t only impressing because of Becky Blomfield’s brilliant voice.

PUP flaunted their skill as a pretty strong live band afterwards, too. The crowd was absolutely satisfied, with their catchy sound and real bangers like “Free at Last”, “Dark Days” or “DVP”. They danced hilariously and wildly and bawled together. Unexpected beer showers from thrown away cups procured cooling-off. Stagediver who somtimes fistbumped with Stefan Babcock (lead vocals, guitar), were permanently seen. Because of the low room ceiling, I’m surprised that the stage lighting did not come down. It is still important to mention the fact that PUP supports local aid organizations / donation campaigns at every stop on their tour. This time it was the Rainbow Refugees Cologne Support Group, which helps people who were persecuted for their sexual orientation and fled to Germany.

By the way, Cologne is Germany’s Punk capital for Stefan Babcock, cause there they get the biggest resonance from their fans. However, I’ll leave it open if there is more Punk going on in Cologne compared to other German cities.
All in all the show was really awesome and offered everything I hoped for from a successful Punk concert.
