Demos From The Vault #9 Obolus | Clairvoyance | Miserable Creature | Wyrre | Nekropulse

We’re back with yet another bunch of demos, this time the focus lies heavily on Death Metal releases, so if you are interested in getting to know some more bands that you might wanna keep on your scope, listen through these demos!

Obolus – Obolus (Death-Doom/Drone 2020 – Sweden)

With the Swedes of OBOLUS I found a death/doom Band, with which I could very relaxedly spend my sleepless night. The self-titled debut record knows to please and can also score with its individuality. While the basic structure of the three tracks consists of viscous, drone-coated death/doom, this slime is interrupted again and again by small musical highlights, such as psychotic sounding clean vocals or striking melodies. Due to the constant roaring and the partly hypnotic riffs, you can easily melt into the ominous music of OBOLUS. Unfortunately the tempo is only rarely picked up and if so, then only for a short time. Here the Swedes should definitely go into more detail, in order to be able to oppose their bitterly angry ton-weighting sound wall in the future with a proper thunderstorm. Nevertheless, this debut is without a doubt a record that you can try out confidently as a Doomfan. If you are more into nasty blastbeats and shredding riffs this band might be a ticking too slow for you, though.

Clairvoyance – Demo (Death Metal 2020 – Poland)

A new announcement at CALIGARI RECORDS, one of my favourite labels, made me excited because especially the European releases of the tape label are attracting my interest and with CLAIRVOYANCE, a Polish Death Metal band, whose demo has already been released digitally and who is going to release it’s physical version via CALIGARI RECORDS. If you are into rotten Caveman Death/Doom to smash your head to you should definitely risk an ear and giving this demo a chance. Besides the viscous rolls of songs especially the bitterly angry vocals are top class and are giving an almost inimitable dark touch to the sound. The tempo varies between blastbeats and mosh-doom parts which are partly infused by some catchy rocking 90’s guitar playing, which you might know from bands like PRONG or TYPE O NEGATIVE. CLAIRVOYANCE have convinced me with their demo in any way and will hopefully be examined live by me in the Gerber after the Corona break. Fans of rancid raw death metal with a big stomping attitude should not miss this Death Metal Debut.

Miserable Creature – s/t Demo (Death Metal 2020 – Australia)

The death metal duo MISERABLE CREATURE from Australia released a demo in January that still gets far too little attention in my opinion. While the production delivers a very cool and authentic raw demo sound, you can also look forward to versatile and groovy sounding drumming and some interesting guitar melodies, which are used to pull through the otherwise dull straight forward riffing. Even though the debut of MISERABLE CREATURE is not very long-lasting with almost 9 minutes, you can get this primitive sound over and over again without losing the desire to play it. If you like your Death Metal dirty and crusty you should definitely check out the demo of this filthy two piece from down under.

Wyrre – Demo 2020 (Black/Death Metal 2020 – USA)

Another great demo I stumbled upon in the last few days is from the States and should taste good to fans of bands like OF FEATHER AND BONE or OUTER HEAVEN. I’m talking about WYRRE whose 3-track demo really blew me away when I heard it for the first time and especially at a decent volume it really unfolds. The sound thrills with bitter blastbeats, low tuned guitars and disgustingly sounding vocals. Mainly WYRRE are beating apart everything in their way with high tempo parts, but at a few spots the songs are still pervaded by well timed tempo changes and therefore give the whole thing a pretty aggressive touch. With 5 minutes running time you are definitely not fed up yet and you can only hope that the Americans will release more beating material soon. If you like uncompromising black/death wrecking bulbs, you shouldn’t miss WYRRE this year.

Nekropulse – Chasm Vision (Black/Death 2020 – Germany)

You guys had a really bad day and you’re sick of all the bullshit in your life? Then you definitely have to listen to the CHASM VISION EP from NEKROPULSE. The band from Germany delivers unbelievably angry Black/Death blasting whose sawing riffing is played almost so fast that it burns itself into your brain. The drumming is no less furious, fires from all holes and is only drowned out by disgustingly screaming vocals. Both tracks of the EP offer top-notch metal and also super produced sound. This excellent quality came as a surprise for me because I didn’t know this band at all. NEKROPULSE tear everything into pieces with their crusty kind of Black/Death and are giving the world a big middle finger that spills over while listening. If you are fan of bands like FUNERAL CHIC, YAITW or SACROSCUM, you shouldn’t make the same mistake as I did, and you should get to know the NEKROPULSE and their CHASM VISION EP immediately. Don’t miss this!
