Elurra – Die Herrschaft der Sonne

(self-released)

The biggest strength of Elurra, however, definitely is the atmosphere and the occult-like setting. Here you feel directly transported to a frosty winter night, in which you attend a mystical ritual in the middle of the forest that drives the fear sweat out of your pores and seems amazingly real.

θoʊθ – Ruins of Gubla

(Kellerassel Records)

The first track we presented at TMB already blasted me away with the raw filth coming from this Phoenician Death Doom combo – the entire EP is gonna be massive!

DSKNT – Vacuum γ-Noise Transition

(Sentient Ruin Laboratories)

If you were afraid of the debut by this swiss nightmare you will sweat the fuck out while listening to Vacuum γ-Noise Transition. Black/Death darker than your future.

The Ruins of Beverast – The Thule Grimoires

(Ván Records)

The German Atmospheric/Blackened Doom legends are back with another epic record via Ván records. I haven’t listened to the teasing material yet as I want to experience the album as a whole, but if it’s anything like their previous records, I’m sure we’re all in for a treat!

Cult Of Luna – The Raging River

(Red Creek, Season of Mist)

Mariner for me is the best LP of the last decade and Cult of Luna is a Post-Metal benchmark.

Foo Fighters – Medicine At Midnight

(Ariola, Sony Music)

Maybe a short trip back in my youth? Maybe some good songs for 2021 on my rotation or summer playlist. I am curious.

Black Country, New Road – For the first time

(Ninja Tune)

One of the most promising new Rock acts are finally dropping their debut album. Maybe this will make it easier to find a proper genre tag for them? Either way, if you like Indie, Noise and anything “Post”, you should check this out!

Korpiklaani – Jylhä

(Nuclear Blast)

VODKA! VODKA! BEER BEER!

Nicho

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets – SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound

(Marathon Artists)

If you think Tame Impala are too “tame” for Psychedelic Rock, PPC is the band for you. (But let’s be honest, the name is probably enough for you to go check them out, right? RIGHT?)

Skin Ticket – Homicidal Ideations

(self-released)

The EP Pure Fucking Chaos already showcased exactly what it promised and I just can’t wait to listen into the full-length debut of this chaotic crossfire.

Gravesend – Methods Of Human Disposal

(20 Buck Spin)

With Preparations for Human Disposal one of my most hyped demos from last year came straight from New York. The band responsible for it, Gravesend, has been able to impressively prove how good a mix of black metal and grindcore can sound, which in my opinion not so many have managed to do so far. When then the debut long player Methods Of Human Disposal has been announced via 20 Buck Spin, my anticipation was immediately ignited and I could not wait to finally listen to it and experience how the sound works on a complete album, especially because it is released immediately via a high-quality label.

Anneke Van Giersbergen – The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest

(Inside Out Music)

She has crossed my path or my ears a few times so far. I have decided to listen to her completely for the first time with this album.

Jarhead Fertilizer – Product of My Environment

(Closed Casket Activities)

Finally the first full length of this hard hitting band with members of full of hell. Smashing Deathgrind mixed with Powerviolence.

Terminal Bliss – Brute Err/ata

(Relapse Records)

Actually, I’m not a big fan of so-called “supergroups”, but the lineup of Terminal Bliss caught my attention, since the members are all active in bands that I still occasionally listen to. In addition to PG.99’s ‘Chris and Mike Taylor’ on vocals and guitar, there are two City Of Caterpillar members on board, ‘Ryan Parrish’ and ‘Adam Juresko’, the first of whom you might know from Iron Reagan and Darkest Hour too. With their new project, however, they have moved away from Skramz and emotional Punk and dedicated themselves more to aggressive 80’s Hardcore Punk, which they can do at least as well, as the 10 minutes of the soon to be released debut album Brute Err/ata on Relapse Records prove.

Sadistic Drive – Anthropophagy

(Blood Harvest Records)

Absolutely riff-driven Old School Death Metal with completely crazy vocals, mad melodies and outbursts into Grindcore.

Architects – For Those That Wish to Exist

(Epitaph)

Architects have evolved from simply another metalcore act to one of the most interesting, important and biggest bands in the genre. The singles we’ve heard so far had divided reception, but I surely can’t wait to hear how they’ve evolved and if they managed to write another hit like “Doomsday”.

Altered Dead – Returned to Life

(Fucking Kill Records)

With this record you can look forward to a crusty driven offshoot of the genre, beaten in somewhere between the old Swedish days and well known American bands of the 90’s. This release delivers ten merciless fist bumps that you can’t get enough from regarding its high instrumental quality.
