Party.San Metal Open Air 2026 – Preview

Happy Birthday, Party.San! Thirty years of metal madness and the festival is still going strong. Once again, we have the pleasure of covering one of Germany’s finest festivals when it comes to death and black metal. It’s already the fifth time we’ve had the honor of reporting from Party.San, and honestly, it’s something we never take for granted.

Before we dive into the bands you absolutely shouldn’t miss this year, I’d like to get one thing off my chest. Criticism is completely fair. Everyone has different tastes, and no festival lineup will ever satisfy every single visitor. But the way some so-called “fans” have reacted to this year’s bookings over the last few months has honestly been embarrassing. It almost feels like a tradition at this point. As soon as a new band gets announced, people rush to social media just to complain.

Do I personally love every single booking? Of course not. But there has never been a festival that only booked bands I wanted to see, and there probably never will be. Party.San also isn’t Wacken or Hellfest. It’s a small to medium-sized festival with a much more focused vision. When you’re booking death, black and thrash metal, the pool of available bands isn’t endless. Add rising touring costs and increasing performance fees, and suddenly things become a lot more complicated. Maybe some people should keep that in mind before posting unfiltered nonsense online.

Now, let’s get to the important part. Which bands should you definitely check out at Party.San 2026?

Thursday, 8th of August

200 Stab Wounds
Tentstage
(2.45 – 3.30 p.m.)

Things become much more modern with 200 Stab Wounds. Together with bands like Frozen Soul and Sanguisugabogg, they’ve become one of the leading names of the new generation of death metal. Endless riffs meet raw violence, creating exactly the kind of sound that has made them one of the hottest bands in the scene. 200? That’s a lot of stab wounds.

Misery Index
Mainstage
(4.45 – 5.30 p.m.)

Misery Index have become one of Party.San’s biggest fan favorites over the years. After their last appearance in 2022, the band behind Jason Netherton is finally back. Armed with their latest single “Feral Future”, you can get the first taste of their new material. For me, they are still one of the very best deathgrind bands on the planet. Definitely one of Thursday’s highlights.

Sadistic Intent

(5.45 – 6.30 p.m.)

Last but certainly not least, don’t miss Sadistic Intent. They are honestly one of the best death metal bands I have ever seen live. Despite being active since 1987, the band has never released a full-length album. Surprisingly, that has never hurt their reputation. Numerous EPs and split releases have earned Sadistic Intent true cult status within the underground. Since they don’t tour very often anymore, every opportunity to see them live is a special one. Don’t let this chance slip away.

Pungent Stench
Mainstage
(6.50 – 7.35 p.m.)

Pungent Stench probably don’t need much of an introduction. They remain one of the most influential yet often overlooked bands in death metal history. Whether it’s material from “For God Your Soul… For Me Your Flesh” or “Been Caught Buttering”, there’s more than enough classic songs to get the crowd going in front of the main stage. At the same time, Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench will be playing one of its final shows before the project comes to an end. So there really are no excuses. Go catch them live one last time.

Begging for Incest
Tentstage
(7.30 – 8.05 p.m.)

If you’re looking for absolute chaos right from the start, make sure to catch Begging for Incest. The German brutal death metal outfit will most likely leave nothing but dust behind on the tent stage. Expect massive circle pits, nonstop violence and enough blast beats to wake up the entire festival grounds. If regular death metal isn’t heavy enough for you, this is your band. Stay brutal.

Evoken
Tentstage
(8.35 – 9.10 p.m.)

Things won’t get any less heavy with Evoken, but they will become a lot slower. Their funeral doom is atmospheric, crushing and almost suffocating at times. It will also be the band’s first appearance at Party.San, making this one of Thursday’s most special performances. Their 2025 album “Mendacium” was another outstanding release, and hearing some of those songs live should be an unforgettable experience. Slow, deep and hard.

Friday, 9th of August

Wormed
Mainstage
(1.45 – 2.30 p.m.)

What does it actually feel like to get swallowed by a black hole? Honestly, I have no idea. But if I had to imagine it, it would probably sound a lot like Wormed. The Spaniards combine brutal death metal with lyrical themes centered around space, black holes and cosmic horror. Brutal death metal… but in space. Their technical precision is almost machine-like, yet they never forget to hit with pure brutality. In space no one can hear you scream, but at Party.San you definitely should make some noise for Wormed.

Crawl
Tentstage
(5.20 – 5.55 p.m.)

If you love the filthy, crust-infused sound of Entombed or Carnage, then Crawl should be at the very top of your list on Friday. The Swedes embody everything that made the classic HM-2 sound so legendary. Expect chainsaw guitars, massive grooves and enough energy to wake up even the most hungover festival visitors. Total destruction is guaranteed.

Wolves in the Throne Room
Main Stage
(6.50 – 7.35 p.m.)

It’s honestly hard to believe that after thirty years of Party.San, Wolves in the Throne Room will finally make their festival debut. They have become one of the most important names in atmospheric black metal and helped shape the genre over the years. Back in the day, some people didn’t quite know what to make of their sound. Today, they’ve earned absolute cult status. Songs like “I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots” have influenced an entire generation of bands. Without a doubt, one of the biggest highlights of the entire weekend.

Saturday, 8th of August

Internal Bleeding
Tent Stage
(1.45 – 2.30 p.m.)

If maximum violence and crushing slam riffs are what you’re after, Internal Bleeding have you covered. Fans wearing camouflage shorts and shirts with completely unreadable band logos will probably gather in front of the stage long before the first note is played. If bands like Dying Fetus or Suffocation are your thing, you already know that Internal Bleeding is simply mandatory.

Hexvessel
Mainstage
(2.45 – 3.30 p.m.)

Without a doubt, Hexvessel are one of the most fascinating bands on this year’s lineup. Somewhere between psychedelic rock, folk and black metal, the Finns have created a sound that is entirely their own. These are exactly the kinds of bookings I love seeing at Party.San. Surrounded by countless extreme metal bands, Hexvessel feel like the festival’s hidden gem. If you’re looking for something a little different, don’t miss them.

Celeste
Main Stage
(7.30 – 8.05 p.m.)

French black metal has long proven that it can stand shoulder to shoulder with the legendary Norwegian scene. A perfect example is Celeste from Lyon. Known for their intense and atmospheric live performances, the band will finally make their Party.San debut on the tent stage. Hopefully, their signature light show can be fully appreciated despite the early time slot, because it’s an essential part of the entire experience.

Wolfbrigade

(9.00 – 10.00 p.m.)

It’s pretty rare for a band to reach cult status across several different subcultures at the same time. Whether you ask punk fans, crust kids or metalheads, they’ll probably all give you the same answer: Wolfbrigade are one of the greatest bands around. Originally known as Wolfpack, they’ve been a staple on battle jackets for decades. Fast songs, razor-sharp guitar work and an unmistakable punk attitude define everything they do. That’s exactly why they’re respected by so many different scenes. Out of the entire lineup, this is probably the band I’m looking forward to the most. An absolute must-see.
