Anyone who has followed the festival line-ups of the last two years, and of course the reviews of the first and second albums here on TMB, will have noticed that there are few bands from the death metal/black metal scene that have enjoyed such a stellar career as Kanonenfieber. And the second live album for last year’s release, which will be released on disc and Blu Ray, shows exactly why this is the case.

The focus of the gig is of course on last year’s album ‘Die Urkatastrophe’, the songs from the album are the framework for the whole show and are only occasionally interspersed with older songs. This turns out to be a very good decision, as the songs from the latest album bring a bit more variety to the stage, both musically and in terms of content. The inclusion of the EP ‘U-Bootsmann’ turned out to be a personal highlight for me. I also noticed that there seemed to be a conscious attempt to incorporate variety and thematic coherence into the music, which worked wonderfully. For example, the concert ended with the accusatory Ausblutungsschlacht, which once again threw the hatred of war and violence at the audience in full fury.

Kanonenfieber hits a musical nerve that many bands would wish for in the first few years of their career. A fantastic show, a great song line-up and thematic content that you take seriously and buy into. Fans of the band will experience a very well mixed live performance, especially if a good sound system is part of the equipment, which is only topped by the visuals thanks to the camera recording. All in all, the album is definitely one of the better live albums of recent years for me.
