From the rotten cellars of Würzburg, Germany, the mighty Zerre have returned and they might just be better than ever. The Thrash Metal maniacs are set to release their new album Rotting on a Golden Throne on March 27thvia Dying Victims Productions. Delivering nine riff-loaded tracks that won’t just destroy your neck, but also crush your brain.
When it comes to thrash metal, Germany is known for its legendary sound. Bands like Sodom, Kreator, Tankard and Destruction paved the way for generations. But Zerre are not your typical German Thrash band. Their approach leans much more towards the raw aggression of Exodus or the crossover energy of Power Trip.
From start to finish, this record is all about aggressive riffs and pure, unfiltered power. Tracks like “Pigs Will Be Pigs” not only hit hard musically but also showcase the band’s political edge. The production on Rotting on a Golden Throne is razor sharp! You could probably cut air with it. Everything sounds tight, direct and straight to the point.
And then there are the gang shouts… holy smokes. They are everywhere, and they hit every single time. Songs like “Pigs Will Be Pigs” or the title track “Rotting on a Golden Throne” deliver some of the most infectious gang shouts you’ll hear in modern crossover thrash. It’s impossible not to shout along.
The riffing and solos are absolutely on point. Zerre prove themselves as true riff wizards throughout the entire album. Neck-breaking tempos and raw insanity take over on tracks like “Deception of the Weak” or “Tin God”. The band still manages to maintain that punk-driven, no-fucks-given attitude that makes everything even more enjoyable.
Songs like “Concrete Hell” are straight-up pit anthems, filled with mosh parts that will leave no one standing still. Zerre give you absolutely no room to breathe. It’s banger after banger, packed with fast-paced guitar work, blasting drums and aggressive gang vocals.
Honestly, who needs coffee in the morning when you can just blast this record? It hits like a sledgehammer straight to your skull. Rotting on a Golden Throne is easily the best work Zerre have released so far. A true milestone for German Crossover Thrash and a serious contender for album of the year.
Don’t sleep on Zerre.
