You don’t have to look into the distance to find something exceptional. Icare are neighbors so to say and they make a lot of gracious noise. Nestled somewhere between the sheer aggression of Nails or Full of Hell and their own blend of Black-Metal mixed with epic aspect of Post-Metal Icare have created an album that truly sweeps your feet while listening to it.
The tracks are getting longer when the album progresses. From the onslaught that are the first four tracks, it gets more and more complex with the next five tracks. The album end with a 20 minute opus that is “Le Dernier Souverain Du Royaume Déchu“. To be honest I already made up my mind after the first four songs but then
It not like one style would fit them better, while listening to the first half of Khaos one could think, Icare are just a rip-off the aforementioned band, but when one get to the really epic songs that last 8 minutes and more (the last three songs), you realize they can really pull off songs that last that long. Some band of that genre just stretch their songs to get this long (for reasons unknown) with annoying things like never ending feedbacks or other noises. But Icare really fill those minutes with “meaning”, the songs have a direction and that is something I really like about this album.
So if you want an album pummels you at first and then crushes you with song-monoliths at the end, you should definitely give Khaos a spin and take one step more into the abyss that is 2020.
