As some of you might now, I like the German YouTube-Channel Krachmucker TV, and during the last days, Ernie released a video of a talk between himself and Patrick, or Nostarion, of the band Dämmerfarben. I never heard of the band before, nor did I know Patrick before, but the talk about bugs, bones and Black Metal, as well as classic stringed instruments was very interesting to watch and listen to.

Alright bugs, bones and Black Metal seem to be a very legit combination, right, but why in hell do they talk about it? Patrick is biologist and his core area is, yeah, bugs, and he explained us, for example, his way to work with dermestids, and how they clean skulls from flesh. But Patrick is also a musician who is well educated in playing the cello and other stringed instruments, about which they talk as well. And that’s why we find classical elements and Nostarion playing the cello in the band’s Black Metal music. I really love the sound of the cello, it’s one of the most beautiful sounding instruments in my opinion. So in the end, the talk made me to listen to Dämmerfarben, and it was something I wasn’t expecting…

Des Herbstes Trauerhymnen MMXX really overwhelmed me with melodies, nature, melancholy and beauty as well as with dirt, spit, and power. Nearly clean lead guitars, played above the drummer’s blast beats, even doubled clean guitar leads, great distorted riffs, fantastic drum rolls and of course the powerful, mourning cello. And you know what’s the best? You can find all this already in the first song “Herbstsonne”. But to be honest, I didn’t need more to hear, I already felt totally in love with this one. In my opinion, in my ears, it was just beauty. Thank you guys for this wonderful peace of music, and thank you Ernie, to help me to find this band.

So guys, if you are not afraid of some beauty in your Black Metal, and yeah, I’m very aware of this contradiction, go ahead and listen to Dämmerfarben.
